CODE OF CONDUCT
Code of Conduct for Coaches
Members of the Coaching staff are required to abide by the Code of Conduct set out below:
• Coaches must respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person.
• Coaches must place the well-being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance.
• Coaches must adhere to all guidelines laid down by B.A.R.L.A and the Rules of The Rugby League
• Coaches must develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect.
• Coaches must not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.
• Coaches must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
• Coaches must ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players.
• Coaches should, at the outset, clarify with the player exactly what is expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from their coach.
• Coaches must co-operate fully with other specialists (e.g. other coaches, officials, sports scientists, doctors, physiotherapists) in the best interests of the player.
• Coaches must always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game or relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances or techniques.
• Coaches must consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
• To continually be mindful that Wetherby Rugby League club is a family club and to always adhere to the clubs policy of no swearing when children and families are present
Always have regard to the best interest of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion on the game or any particular aspect of it, including others involved in the game.
Code of Conduct for Players
Players are the most important people in the sport. Playing for the team and for the team to win, is the most fundamental part of the game. But not winning at any cost; Fair play and respect for all others in the game is fundamentally important.
Obligations towards the game -A player should:
Make every effort to develop his own sporting abilities, in terms of skill, technique, tactics and stamina
To respect club property (including opposition clubs) at all times
Give maximum effort and strive for the best possible performance during a game. Even is his team is in a position where the desired result has already been achieved.
Set a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters
Avoid all forms of gamesmanship, time wasting and maintain pa professional conduct at all times
Always have regard to the best interests of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion on the game and any particular aspect of it, including others involved in the game

Obligations towards own team-A player should:
Make every effort consistent with Fair Play and the Laws of the Game to help his own team win
Resist any influence that might, or might be seen to, bring into question his commitment to the team winning
To adhere to the correct dress code for all fixtures (tracksuit or shirt and tie)
To represent the club respectfully and positively at all times
Respect for the Laws of the Game and competition rules-A player should:
Know and abide by the Laws, rules and spirit of the game, and the competition rules
Accept success and failure, victory and defeat, equality
Resist temptation to take banned substances or use banned techniques
Equity
The sport of Rugby League is opposed to discrimination of any form and will promote measures to prevent discrimination in whatever form, from being expressed.
As a Parent/Guardian
. Teach your child to treat everyone equally and sensitively regardless of their gender, ethnic origin or cultural background.
. Do not force an unwilling child to take part in Rugby League.
. Encourage your child to always play by the rules and to respect the match officials.
. Young people are involved in organised sport for their enjoyment - not yours.
. Never ridicule or shout at your child for making a mistake or losing a game.
. Teach your child that effort and teamwork are as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
. Insist on fair and disciplined play - do not tolerate foul play, cheating, foul, sexist or racist language.
. Turn defeat into victory by helping young people towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship.
. Remember that young people learn best by example.
. Do not question publicly the judgement of match officials and never their honesty.
. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches and administrators - they give their time, energy and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.
. Support all efforts to remove verbal, physical, sexist and racial abuse from Rugby League.
As a Spectator
. Remember the players are taking part for their enjoyment not yours. They are not professional or international gladiators.
. Be on your best behaviour. Do not use foul, sexist or racist language or harass players, coaches or match officials.
. Verbal abuse of players or match officials is not acceptable in any shape or form.
. Show respect for opponents and match officials. Without them there would be no game.
. Acknowledge good performance and fair play by opponents as well as your own team.
. Condemn the use of violence in all forms.
. Do not ridicule players who make mistakes.
. Do not overemphasise the importance of winning.
